dc.description.abstract	The article deals with the emergence of industrial art museums in Russia in the 1860s and anticipates some of the results of a major study on Russian decorative arts and World Fairs between 1851 and 1900. The history of these museums in Moscow and St. Petersburg between 1862 and 1870, which is very little known both in Russia and abroad, is chosen to illustrate, on the example of Russia, a common phenomenon in Europe in the 1850s-1870s, namely the appearance of industrial art museums to stimulate the development of national industries. The research is based mainly on the analysis of hitherto unexplored archival documents.

abstract
