Abstract

This paper discusses two passages of the late antique hexameter poem P.Vindob. G 29788, fr. 3 Livrea = APHex I 45,3 Perale attributed to Pamprepius of Panopolis. In the first section, the author’s choice to use the noun μεληδόνες at l. 6 of the iambic prologue is analysed, highlighting the stylistic and semantic effects it conveys. In the second section, a different reading of the final part of l. 187 (πόμα λίμνης) is proposed, taking into account the narrative context of the poem, the earlier and contemporary literary parallels, and the paleographic aspects.
