Antigono di Caristo, autore della Ἰστοριῶν παραδόξων συναγωγή
Abstract
In MS Heidelberg Pal. gr. 398, a paradoxographical work titled Ἱστοριῶν παραδόξων συναγωγή is attributed to an author named Antigonus. Early scholars identified this figure with Antigonus of Carystus, but this attribution has been largely rejected in recent decades. This article argues that the original hypothesis remains plausible. To support this claim, we examine the work’s indirect tradition, with particular attention to a citation found in Stephanus of Byzantium. We also analyse the references to the city of Carystus within the text. Finally, we show that one specific piece of information in the work also occurs in a fragment attributed to Antigonus of Carystus.
