abstract

The paper seeks to identify the lokāyatika brāhmaṇas mentioned in the Tipiṭaka and concludes, after comparing a reference to the lokāyatika brāhmaṇa in the Rāmāyaṇa, that the word lokāyatika in both the contexts refers to an argumentative brāhmaṇa, not a materialist.
