Abstract
This study aims to present a case of confessionalisation of science by focusing on the cosmological controversies raised by the appropriation of Tycho Brahe’s astronomical theories within the Jesuit milieu. It discusses the intellectual and scientific framework that led Jesuits to eventually adopting the geo-heliocentric system of Tycho Brahe and the historiography on confessionalization of science and Jesuit scientific practices in the early modern period.
