Abstract

A new inspection of MS Laur. Plut. 87.6 – an exemplar of the fourth book of Aristotle’s Physics with John Philoponus’ Commentary, purchased in Crete in September 1415 by Cristoforo Buondelmonti – has made it possible to identify some minor philological interventions, as well as an interesting marginal annotation by Maximus Planudes. The Byzantine scholar intervenes in Philoponus’ criticism of the Aristotelian theory of unnatural motion, adding an original remark in support of the late antique commentator.
