Abstract
The introductory chapter outlines the book’s themes and proposes a theoretical and methodological framework for engaging with the Indo-Tibetan Buddhist concept of svasaṃvedana or rang rig in dialogue with modern notions of self-awareness. It addresses translation challenges, reviews existing scholarship, and includes a brief technical note.
