Abstract
Travel literature serves as a privileged lens for interpreting relationships between different countries. Through the analysis of the travel diaries of two Greek writers, Kostas Uranis and Ghiannis Michaìl Panaghiotòpulos, the article explores the representation of Venice, an iconic city in the history of relations between Greece and Italy. The authors’ accounts portray a magical and decadent city, a bridge between East and West, reflecting the conflict between modernity and tradition, perceived as a cultural crossroads and a symbol of both decay and beauty. Uranis and Panaghiotòpulos, with their unique yet complementary styles, transform the Serenissima into a living stage, where history meets myth and beauty mingles with melancholy. The text analysis, beyond offering the travellers’ perspective capable of capturing the essence of the historic lagoon city, reveals profound reflections on cultural identity and the sense of belonging
