Chapter | «Epsi amorosi miei versi insieme con la expositione di quelli»: sul Commento (1500) di Girolamo Benivieni
Abstract
The essay deals with the prosimetric self-commentary by the Florentine poet Girolamo Benivieni printed in 1500. In particular, the relationship between its prose and poems is investigated, thereby highlighting the considerable autonomy of prose from verse, since the author’s main concern is to outline a moral and spiritual path. Finally, the Commento is examined in relation to the other works by Benivieni, evidencing his unswerving tendency towards self-interpretation.
