Chapter | Historias insólitas de los mundiales de fútbol: un tiquitaca léxico en el terreno de juego
Abstract
This study analyzes the lexical variation in two versions of Luciano Wernicke's book Historias insólitas de los mundiales de fútbol: the original Argentine version and its adaptation to Peninsular Spanish. Through a contrastive analysis supported by academic and digital sources, American terms and their regional variants are identified, with special attention to football-related vocabulary. The research reveals notable lexical variation within football terminology, influenced by globalization, which facilitates the understanding of terms across different Spanish-speaking regions. The study confirms the usefulness of digital tools for a geolocated analysis of lexical variants. The findings highlight the richness and diversity of Spanish in football language and underscore the importance of considering regional variants when adapting texts between different varieties of Spanish.
