Chapter | La ricezione in Spagna del dispositivo di controllo ecclesiastico sul modernismo previsto dalla Pascendi attraverso le relazioni ordinariali (1907-1916)
Abstract
The article analyzes the reports sent by Spanish Bishops to the Holy See according to the directives of the last part of the encyclical Pascendi. The thirty documents, found in the Vatican archives, show that not all the Bishops followed the Vatican directions sending the reports to Rome. This scenario was due to the unclear instructions of Pascendi and to the underestimation of the modernist threat by the Spanish prelates. All these issues confirm the historiographical conclusions about the poor presence of Modernism in Spain, at the same time shedding new light on the life of some little-known religious reformers.
