Aims & Scope

The National Edition of the Works of Giacomo Casanova aims to provide a critical reconstruction of the Venetian’s authorial journey and the layered evolution of his writing that culminated in the Histoire de ma vie. The project encompasses Casanova’s entire body of work – including writings on theater, poetry, history, chronicles, philosophy, diplomacy, mathematics, and literature – as well as his correspondence.

Particular attention is paid to the connections and relationships, including genetic links, between the author's various works. To this end, the printed volumes are accompanied by an Open Access online publication in hypertext format, designed to highlight the cross-references between texts, critical apparatus, commentaries, and bibliographic sources.


The National Edition of the works of Giacomo Casanova is promoted by the Ministero della Cultura (M.D. March 28, 2025).
