Research Article | No hay burlas con el amor and the Finicky Educated Lady from Calderón to Molière
Abstract
The aim of this article is to undertake a reflection on the caricatural character of Quevedo’s culta latiniparla and her inclusion in No hay burlas con el amor, urban comedy by Calderón de la Barca. The article will adopt a transnational and intertextual approach linked to the reception outside Iberian borders of educated woman who boast a pompous language. In particular, following a series of critical controversies on the possibility that Molière could have been inspired by this play for his work Les femmes savantes, a contrastive analysis will be carried out to assess the real entity of the Calderonian reverberations in Molière’s text, showing both points of contact and discrepancies related to reworking the wise and hembrilatina lady cliché.
