Research Article | An Example of Literary Analysis Applied to Economic Discourse
Abstract
Following the indications of McCloskey, according to whom the economic discourse can be analyzed in the same way as any other literary discourse, we review and discuss the different rhetorical devices adopted by the Chinese economist and financial advisor Xie Guozhong in the English and the Chinese versions of an article which deals with the same topic of Japan’s economic recession. The purpose of the study is to verify whether the use of such different rhetorical devices in the two languages corresponds to a different communicative intent and, if so, to identify and point out their motivations.
