Storia e architettura degli arsenali di Creta
Abstract
This volume explores the architectural history and urban context of the Cretan shipyards in Heraklion and Chania from the 14th to the early 17th century. Built to house, fit out, and repair galleys, they were harbour facilities, public buildings, and crucial components of the defense network. Drawing on sources held primarily in Venetian archives, it explores their relationship with cities and harbours, administration of state building projects, material supply, local building traditions, and the involvement of craftsmen and Cretan society. The open-access digital edition links transcriptions to high-resolution images of their respective documents and offers advanced search features.
