Chapter | Desde el minuto uno. Del lenguaje futbolístico al discurso político: un operador de refuerzo asertivo en el español del siglo XXI
Abstract
This study investigates the expression desde el minuto uno (from minute one) as an intensifier in twenty-first century Spanish political discourse. The structure is derived from the delimitative temporal adjunct <desde el minuto + numerical expression>, commonly used in football and sports commentary to mark the start of a new situation or state of affairs. The phrase is part of a broader catalogue of soccer-related expressions that have permeated everyday language, providing political discourse with strategic tools to reinforce statements. This study argues that the construction functions as an operator of assertive force and examines the semantic and morphosyntactic markers indicative of its emerging grammaticalisation. The variant desde el minuto cero (from minute zero) is also analysed, as it is widely used across various discursive fields. The research focuses on European Spanish, drawing data from the Real Academia de la Lengua’s corpus, with attention to discursive variation.
