Chapter | 4 • Interaction Period 2: Contacts Between the Aegean And Cyprus From the End of Middle Bronze Age to the Early Late Bronze Age
Abstract
As appears from an overview of Cypro-Aegean synchronisms and the historical background of Cypro-Aegean connections, Interaction Period 2 corresponds to most of the Minoan Neopalatial period (Middle Minoan III/Late Minoan IA-LM IB) on Crete and the final Middle Bronze Age-Prepalatial Period (Middle Helladic III late-LH IIA) on the Greek mainland, while on Cyprus it corresponds to the first urban phase (Middle Cypriot III/Late Cypriot I-Late Cypriot IA and Late Cypriot IB). Since the comparative analysis of reciprocal cultural relationships and all the exchanged materials show that close contacts between Crete and Cyprus were established in this period, a revaluation of the importance of Interaction Period 2 is proposed in the development of their connections.
