Abstract
The second chapter analyses analized the (re)discovery of earlier Judaeo-Christian traditions in Muslim eschatology. These newly achieved histories and prophecies were generally called ‘Isra’iliyyat’ (Israelitic stuff), and were looked at with a mix of interest and concern by Muslim scholars. It will be shown that a common pattern of eschatological events was adopted by all three monotheisms, which used and inverted elements proper to the other eschatological traditions, creating a common apocalyptic language. The main figures, events, and ideas related to the End of the World are shared by Muslims, Christians, and Jewish apocalypticists, who sought to make sense of the tumultuous history of the seventh, eighth, and ninth centuries CE.
