Abstract
Nestled in lush greenery and an area of outstanding geological interest, the archaeological site of Gaṙni has aroused enthusiasm from travellers over the centuries. By analysing travel literature, this paper shines new light on how travellers’ writings can improve our knowledge of Gaṙni. This study is divided into three parts. The first part focuses on archaeological data and the preservation of Gaṙni throughout the centuries. The second part examines the sources used by the travellers to draw up their narrative. The last part deals with their methodology and their approach while contextualising the rise of Archaeology as a scientific field.
