Chapter | La figura del indígena en Dios trajo la sombra
Abstract
Dios trajo la sombra, the third of the collection of poems Los cuadernos de la tierra, by Jorge Enrique Adoum, poetises the Conquest of the Inca Empire. The arrival of Francisco Pizarro and his men and their actions until the capture and death of Atahualpa are the anecdote behind a review of the process of Discovery and Conquest of America. Jorge Enrique Adoum questions, in his verses, the official historical discourse, established by the same Chronicle of the Indies. His main interest is to show the process of the discovery of the other, both for the indigenous people and for the conquerors, in that profound collision of cultures. Retaking and subverting secular topics, this historical poem reconstructs the figure of the indigenous and gives back its own voice, in a clear vindication of the vision of the vanquished.
