Cause, mete e figure sociali della nuova emigrazione italiana
abstract
In 2013, about 82.000 Italians left the country, many more people than the previous year. This trend was largely confirmed during 2014. Nevertheless, there is little research on the new Italian emigration, on its causes, destinations and social actors. Mass media mentions only brain drain stories, yet only 30% of nationals that emigrates are graduates. Thus, who are the others? Why do they leave? What are they looking for? Engaging with the other articles of this book, as well as with sociological and political theories, this introduction brings to the fore the stark contradictions at play within the current debates on the new Italian emigration.
