abstract

The vast majority of Roma present in Italy are living in both relative poverty and absolute poverty, which affects differently the various components of this population, with the extreme poverty concentrated in large cities and among the inhabitants of the camps. This situation is exacerbated by the «poverty of status», i.e. the frequent irregularities that a part of them is experiencing for the restrictive and repressive legislation on immigration. A particularly painful consequence of this condition of generalized poverty is the abnormal number of Roma children declared adoptable.
