dc.description.abstract	Ca’ Foscari University of Venice has been involved in excavations in Crete for about 25 years, in collaboration with the Italian Archaeological School in Athens and with the University of Catania. The Archaeological Mission of Phaistos and Hagia Triada has raised the legacy of the Italian Mission of Crete active in the island since 1899. After many years of research devoted to the revision of the old excavations and the study of finds from the new excavations at Hagia Triada, work was resumed at Phaistos. The project Phaistos: the Palace and its Surroundings has been designed with the specific aim of better defining the role of non-palatal structures in relation to the Palace itself. In detail, the Venetian mission’s action has focused on: the area southwest of the Palace, an extensive trial west of the Hellenistic Ramp, the complex of the so-called Geometric Village, the area west of the Hellenistic Ramp, a Middle Bronze Age road, coinciding with the final stages of the First Palace of Phaistos. Other information is provided by G. Baldacci on works of full publication of old excavations at Phaistos, and recent excavations at Haghia Triada.
