abstract

One of the goals in the itinerant career of Galeazzo Gualdo Priorato is the appointment as historian of the Austrian court of which the Historia of Leopoldo Cesare (1670‑1674) is an important proof. It contains materials already used in the Relatione della Città e Stato di Milano (1666), including the report of the journey of Empress Margaret Theresa from Madrid to Vienna to marry her uncle Leopold I of Habsburg. This section, although hastily added to the volume when the wedding procession pass in Milan, constitutes an ‘official’ version of the journey, overcoming the fragmentation and the local perspective of contemporaries short anonymous Spanish and Italian broadsheets focused on local aspects.
