dc.description.abstract	First published in 1994, Jonathan Coe’s novel What a carve up!, on the one hand, deals with some of the most characteristic features of Postmodernism, such as the employment of multiple narrative styles, different perspectives, first- and third-person narrative voices, a highly fragmented timeline. On the other hand, it presents a socially engaged attitude that is generally not considered to be a distinctive trait of that period. Moreover, the character of Micheal Owen and his development through the story can profitably be analyzed suggesting a correlation between his figure and the mythological one of Orpheus.
