abstract

Over the last decade the phenomenon of internship in Italy has involved a growing number of people, who have been employed in the private, public and non-profit sectors. Concerning this phenomenon, however, very little is known. This paper shows that, between 2009 and 2015, the number of people who have carried out at least one internship has doubled and reached almost 1,000,000. In addition, the paper presents the main features of both the interns and the internships, showing how the use of internships is moving away more and more from those who should be its educational purposes and becoming more and more a form of exploitation.
